Anritsu Teams with Gennum for 16G Fiber Channel Demonstration at OFC

MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer To Measure Performance of World’s First 16GFC SFP+ IC Solution

April 1, 2009

Anritsu Company, a leading provider of optical test solutions, announces its MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer will be part of a demonstration in Gennum Corporations OFC/NFOEC booth (#3349) that will showcase the worlds first 16GFC SFP+ complete integrated circuit (IC) solution. The demonstration is another example of Anritsus commitment to working with innovative companies to develop solutions designed for next-generation networks (NGNs).

The need for high-bandwidth, high-speed networks is fueling development of products and technology. Anritsu is playing a role in this development by working with companies such as Gennum and providing them with the test solutions they need to design products used in NGNs, said ANRITSU SPOKESPERSON.

In the demonstration, the MP1800A, configured with 14G high-speed pulse pattern generator (PPG) and error detector (ED) modules, will be generating signals that will be transmitted through Gennums IC solution and 150 meters of optical fiber. Once the signal has passed through the fiber and IC solution, the MP1800A will analyze the received signal to verify performance. The demonstration will show how Gennums comprehensive solution is meeting the demands of next-generation 16G Fiber Channel applications. GENNUM QUOTE Gennums solution is comprised of a clock and data recovery (CDR) with limiting amplifier IC, a CDR with integrated equalizer/laser driver IC, and transimpedance amplifier (TIA). The new IC solution and reference designs enable development of SFP+ modules using the same form factor and pin-out of previous 8GFC solutions to create low-cost, low-power Gb/CDR solutions that provide robust performance and added noise immunity required in networking and storage applications.

The MP1800A is the perfect test solution for this application because the analyzer supports a wide frequency range of 0.1G to 28G, so it can cover 16G Fiber Channel. Additionally, their large pattern memory of 128 MB and flexible data output options simplify test needs. The MP1800A also has differential data inputs/outputs for testing SFF MSAs, and can conduct key measurements, such as bathtub, ISI, and eye diagrams, automatically.
